About the RGT

The Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) was established in 1992 with the aims of improving the status and profile of guitar teachers, and helping to ensure their professional recognition within the mainstream of music education, by the establishment of an accredited range of comprehensive and well structured teaching programmes.

RGT in now the world's largest organisation of guitar teachers and, in conjunction with its partner London College of Music Examinations, provides accredited exams in electric guitar, rock guitar, acoustic guitar, jazz guitar, bass guitar, classical guitar, ukulele and popular music theory. Exams take place throughout all regions of the UK, as well as in Europe, N. America, Australia and the Far East.

AUGUST 2016: RGT merges with London College of Music

Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) has merged with the London College of Music (LCM), and is now rebranded as 'RGT@LCM'.

Since its creation in 1992, RGT has collaborated with the London College of Music (LCM), which is part of the University of West London (UWL), to provide internationally-recognised accredited exams across the spectrum of popular guitar music in electric, rock, acoustic, jazz, bass guitar and ukulele – from beginner to Diploma level.

RGT is now the world's foremost specialist organisation for guitar teachers and a leading provider of popular music guitar and theory exams nurturing musical talent across the globe. With the retirement of RGT Founder, Tony Skinner, LCM is the natural home for RGT. LCM is committed to continue to grow and develop RGT and ensure that Tony's considerable contribution to the world of guitar education lives on for many years to come.

RGT@LCM will be managed by LCM Examinations, assisted by RGT's current Chief Examiner Merv Young. LCM is working closely with RGT to ensure a smooth transition. Anyone currently taking an examination or thinking of taking an examination in the future will not be affected by the merger, as RGT exams will continue to be administered and examined in the same way by the same skilled personnel. There are currently no plans to change any of the existing RGT syllabuses or exam handbooks. The considerable benefits of RGT membership to guitar teachers will remain in place.
