Ofqual Accreditation
RGT offers quality exams you can have confidence in: all RGT’s grade and diploma exams are regulated by Ofqual (the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator)*.
Our awarding body, University of West London, has corporate recognition from Ofqual and the corresponding organisations in Wales (DfES) and Northern Ireland (CCEA). Our exams are regulated by Ofqual, DfES and CCEA. In order to be accredited, qualifications need to meet stringent criteria related to exam content, delivery, assessment and reporting procedures.
* Ofqual is the new regulator of qualifications, exams and tests in England, having taken over this role from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) sets out the levels at which qualifications are recognised, as well as their size. It helps learners to make informed decisions on the qualifications they need, by comparing the levels of different qualifications and identifying progression routes. The table below shows the levels at which RGT exams are recognised:

Inclusion on the QCF:
- provides official approval of our assessment methods, reporting and certification processes.
- provides recognition that the standard of RGT exams is equivalent at each grade to that of other recognised awarding bodies.
- ensures that funding is available where appropriate.

UCAS Tariff Points
UCAS tariff points towards university entrance are awarded to candidates attaining grades 6, 7 or 8 in any RGT exams.
These UCAS points will prove useful not just for students applying for Higher Education music courses, but also for students applying to non-music courses – i.e. UCAS and university admissions staff now recognise the value music grade exams can have across all subject areas as they indicate motivation, self-discipline and organisational skills.
The table below sets out the UCAS points allocated to RGT exams:
