Ofqual Accreditation

RGT offers quality exams you can have confidence in: all RGT’s grade and diploma exams are fully-accredited by Ofqual (the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator)*.
Our awarding body, University of West London, has corporate recognition from Ofqual and the corresponding organisations in Wales (DCELLS) and Northern Ireland (CCEA). Our exams are accredited by Ofqual, DCELLS and CCEA. In order to be accredited, qualifications need to meet stringent criteria related to exam content, delivery, assessment and reporting procedures.

* Ofqual is the new regulator of qualifications, exams and tests in England, having taken over this role from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).

The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) sets out the levels at which qualifications can be recognised. It helps learners to make informed decisions on the qualifications they need, by comparing the levels of different qualifications and identifying progression routes. The table below shows the levels at which RGT exams are recognised:

Further information on RGT’s accredited qualifications, including accreditation codes and unit numbers, may be found on The National Database of Accredited Qualifications – http://www.ndaq.org.uk

NOTE: Type 'University of West London' into the qualifications search box to view details relating to RGT exams.
The National Qualifications Framework is soon to be replaced by the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which will indicate the size of qualifications as well as their standard. We are currently submitting our qualifications for inclusion in the QCF.

UCAS Tariff Points

UCAS tariff points towards university entrance are awarded to candidates attaining grades 6, 7 or 8 in any RGT exams.

These UCAS points will prove useful not just for students applying for Higher Education music courses, but also for students applying to non-music courses – i.e. UCAS and university admissions staff now recognise the value music grade exams can have across all subject areas as they indicate motivation, self-discipline and organisational skills.

The table below sets out the UCAS points allocated to RGT exams:
